Enjoy long lunches on the locally sourced timber deck which extends the length of the lodge. Eat fresh produce straight from the garden and farm – some of the best culinary delights Hawke’s Bay has to offer.

The Eco Lodge’s spacious and tranquil living area is complete with open fire, modern kitchen, and expansive French doors connecting you the lake and the Farm.

Wake up to birdsong, frogs calling, and mesmerising water. The accommodation wing of the lodge sleeps up to 17 people and the bedrooms are positioned away from the living area to maximise peace and quiet when it’s needed.

The Lodge is a fully self contained facility that is spacious enough to accommodate two-three families wishing to holiday together or a group who simply want space to relax in. The shared bathroom has tiling that is a gorgeous artwork in itself. In the heart of the building there is a light and spacious commercial grade kitchen and a huge living area with striking wooden floorboards and the calm, neutral tones throughout, continue the overall feeling of serenity. A unique covered deck, with one side completely open to the lake links the bedroom wing to the main living wing and offers outdoor living in any kind of weather. The Mangarara Eco Lodge has plenty of room for relaxation and entertainment and stunning views from every angle.

The Lodge is equipped with all the modern kitchen appliances, sky TV, wi-fi and stereo, plus some greener technology as well. The wood fired boiler heats hot water in an instant and the solar panels keep this topped up. The fireplace is an attractive central point in the living area and the expansive double glazed windows ensures the building remains cool in the summer and toasty in the winter, as well as optimising those incredible views.

Stock the lodge with produce from the farm so you can enjoy wholesome farm fresh food while you stay. Add to your order eggs, pork, lamb and vegetables all grown right here on the farm.

Your hosts Greg and Rachel Hart live in another dwelling on the farm and are available 24/7 should you have any queries.

Air New Zealand partnership

We have partnered withe h Air New Zealand and, with funding from the Air NZ Environmental Trust, have planted 20ha of native trees and incorporated food bearing trees throughout the farm. To date 94,000 trees have been planted. Enjoy these plantings with across farm walks or simply sitting on the expansive deck overlooking the lake.

As well as using the Lodge (as above) your corporate team can take a tour of Mangarara Station with Greg aka The Farmer. Greg is experienced at explaining how every meal makes a difference by connecting people to the land and their food through discussing the principles of regenerative agriculture, permaculture and why we plant trees. Mangarara Eco Lodge and education centre is set on 1507 acres of pure New Zealand farmland, on the edge of lake Horse Shoe and native regenerative bush.

The Mangarara Eco Lodge Environmental and Educational Ethos

Like the rapid changes happening on our planet, the farm is transitioning to be a farm of the future, restoring balance by developing diverse integrated regenerative farming systems, and co-creating ecosystems through tree planting programs, our eco-lodge accommodation and education centre, and also opening the farm to the public to enable others to reconnect to the earth that sustains us.

Every day we choose our future. How we grow our food is the key to the health of our environment the health of bio diversity and of course the health of people and ultimately the health of society. So producing healthy food from healthy soil is our primary focus as the food choices we make every day are in fact votes for the kind of world we will leave for our children. Making wise choices and being part of positive change, growing healthy food and caring for the environment is very empowering and enables us to take back the power we have lost to corporate and political greed.

Building the lodge sustainably

The building is two ex classrooms from a local high school and has been retro-fitted using local and natural materials, such as earth plaster and macrocarpa all grown and milled on the farm.
The Lodge is equipped with all the modern kitchen appliances, sky TV, WI-FI and stereo, plus some greener technology as well.
The wood fired boiler heats hot water in an instant and the solar panels keep this topped up. This also heats the radiators throughout the building keeping is toasty in every season.
The fireplace is an attractive central point in the living area and the expansive double glazed windows ensures the building remains cool in the summer and warm in the winter, as well as optimising those incredible views.
The macrocarpa used throughout the Lodge has been grown and milled on Mangarara.
We chose to Purely Dorset duvet inners as the wool comes from a friends farm just down the road. These together with the beautiful bright Exquisite Wool Blankets your bed will be eco luxury!
All our furnishings are either from local businesses or upcycled treasures such as the old wooden school desks in the bedrooms and lounge.
The bathroom tiling is from New Zealand company Middle Earth Tiles. And the Natural Flow waste water and sewerage system feeds the worms.

The Background

At Mangarara – The Family Farm and Eco Lodge we are trying to do our bit to create a world that offers more compassion, caring and sharing.

We choose to support Kerrie and the Team at The Acorn Project Hawkes Bay – who provide support for young people aged 12 to 24 years and their family, living with cancer through professional and peer support programs to ensure no young person ever faces cancer alone.
